History of the Taylor Barn- built in 1879

Historic Taylor Barn was built in 1879 by Eben Baldwin.  Designed by an Italian architech the barn was built by German masons.

The structure is a "banked barn"  which means that the bottom floor was open to the outside on only one or two sides.  That basement story had stalls for thirty head of horses and was built with the capacity to hold eighty tons of hay.

The original farm house burned to the ground in 1903 and was rebuilt by Eben Baldwin 1905.

Currently owned by Charlie and Debi Taylor. Charlie grew up on the farm which his family purchased 1947.

Charlie and Debi have restored the home and are working to restore the barn to its original beauty.  Hand-hewn timbers of walnut, hickory, and sycamore are as good as new.
Structurally the barn is in great condition.
